Countdown!

30 Days till we leave to go see Hugh. I am very excited. I am sure if my kids knew just how close it was they would be excited too. I am making my preparations as fast as I can with 2 kids running around. I have gotten the material for my formal and then I had to wait another week before the pattern went on sale. I think this dress is going to cost me approximately $23. Compared to the $104 I thought about paying for a formal I would have ordered on the net. But then you don't have the guarantee that it would fit. So this way I am spending a lot less and I know this will fit like a glove. I also went to the mall and looked at the formals there too. And guess what, non of the dresses these days have sleeves. As a matter of fact you are lucky if you come across a dress that even has spaghetti straps. It amazes me. Ok so I have made a half mock dress. I just did the top part to make sure I wasn't going to have to make any adjustments on the shoulders. It is a little wide across the chest and I am not sure if I need to bring it in a bit or not. That will be decided today. I also went back and got more of the material so I can make Katie a dress. We wont wear them at the same time but I know it will make such a cute dress for Katie.

Ok Ive been holding back for a while because my plans have been undecided but now it is decided. After Hugh's graduation I will not be coming back to Iowa. I will be headed to South Carolina and stay with my Father-in-law for a few months. I am excited to go. It will be summer time and that means lots of things in SC. For one the Beach is less than 2 hours away. For another My F-in-L has horses and for those of you that don't know I LOVE horses. I plan to go on many ridding adventures with him. This will also put us closer to the kids cousins. Like within walking distance. And for those of you that don't know, my 2 sisters-in-law and I all had boys in the same year. One was born 3 days after Leo and the other 4 months after. So they are close in age. It will be fun. We will be there in time for Leo and Sam's birthdays. This will be time for the in-laws to spend time with the the kids. We don't get to see them much so it will be good. I guess that's all for this post.

I wont be posting a picture of my dress until after the graduation because I want to surprise Hugh. So after March 27 I will post one. Stay tuned.

But he is still my cute little boy. Like father like son I guess.

Ode to my little girl

4 years ago my precious little princess came into this world. It is amazing how fast kids grow up. There were a lot of pictures I could have posted of her when she was born but instead I'll just give you the address where they are. http://offenonline.com/momndad/
I am so glad to have my little girl in my life. She brings so many smiles to our family. She is always making me laugh. She is just so silly. So I did pick out a few select pictures.

I do beleive this was the first time in Hugh's adult life that he held an infant. It was really cute.

Happy birthday Katie. We love you.

A Time of Remembrance and Gratitude

This afternoon, I watched the funeral services for the late Gordon B. Hinckley on satellite TV at my local church building. The funeral was broadcast live from the Conference Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Salt Lake City, Utah. Hinckley had served as President of the Church since March 1995.

I had been baptized and joined the Church less than 3 months earlier. I don't even remember the previous president, President Howard W. Hunter - though I do remember his death. I "grew up" as a Latter-day Saint during the presidency of Gordon B. Hinckley. It was during his tenure that I was diagnosed with and overcame a life threatening illness (1995), that I served 2 years as a full-time missionary (1999-2001), that I married Shanna (2002), and that I began my military career (2007).

This reminds me of an earlier time in my life. I remember back when I was in Kindergarten we held a mock election for President of the United States. It was the incumbent Jimmy Carter versus Ronald Regan. Two people voted for Jimmy Carter, me and someone that wouldn't admit to it. Everyone else voted Regan. Regan was elected. (I was very young and didn't understand politics. I voted for Carter for the sole reason that he was the incumbent, therefore had more experience.)

Twelve years later, I was a senior in high school. The nation had gone through 8 years of Regan and 4 years of Bush leadership. In my mind at the time, it had been one 12 year administration with a few minor changes. Then Bush lost his re-election bid. It was the end of an era. I felt lost. I didn't know what was going to happen to our great country. I feared the worst. I feared change.

I don't have that fear now. The Church is in good hands. It is lead through revelation by the prophets of the Church.

Now is the time to remember the great service of our late leader, President Gordon B. Hinckley. Remember where he has lead us from from, reflect upon where we are today, and look forward in eagerness to a bright tomorrow.

P-A-R-T-Why? Cause I gotta!

Well Katies party was today and it was a lot of fun. 4 of her friends came and they had a lot of fun. I left out pictures of the other kids for privacy reasons. We did play pin the tail on the donkey, we had a pull string pinata, had cake and ice cream and then opened presents. Turned out really good. The kids had fun playing before and after the games. An hour party is perfect!

Katie only wanted the Dots from the pinata and there was only one box. The rest were tootsi rolls and flavored tootsi rolls.
